The November meeting of the Senate of Semmelweis University made decisions on various current applications for executive positions and the amendment of the rules and regulations concerning awards, while the new members of the consistory also introduced themselves. At the meeting, following the decision of the body, rector Dr. Béla Merkely presented outgoing chancellor Dr. Szász Károly with a Pro Universitate Award, and recognized two of his colleagues with awards as well.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Béla Merkely introduced the two new members of the Consistory of Semmelweis University: Dr. Róza Nagy, chief advisor to the president of the Hungarian National Bank, and Gábor Orbán, CEO of Richter Nyrt. The Consistory will continue to be led by professor emeritus Dr. Zoltán Nagy.

At the proposal of the rector, the Senate awarded outgoing chancellor Dr. Károly Szász, who leaving his post as of November 30, 2019 and will in the future be taking on a leading role within the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, with a Pro Universitate Award. The duties of the chancellor will be performed starting from December 1, 2019 by financial director Baumgartnerné Irén Holló, acting as vice-chancellor for general affairs.

The Senate also made decisions on renewing the mandate of permanent committees at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and on the election of new members to various other committees. The body also decided on modifications to the rules and regulations concerning awards, creating two new awards: the “Recognition of the Rector and the Chancellor” is to be awarded jointly by the two university leaders, while in connection with vocational schools joining the university earlier this year, an award for “Semmelweis University Outstanding Vocational School Teacher” was also created. Senators also provided their opinions on three ongoing applications for executive positions.

At the end of the session, Dr. Béla Merkely presented awards to two colleagues of the chancellor: Dr. Éva Sáray, head of the chancellor’s cabinet, received a Pro Universitate award, while Réka Tóth, head of the chancellor’s secretariat, was presented with an Outstanding Worker of Semmelweis University recognition.
