The joint delegation of the Chinese Zhejiang University School of Medicine and its First Affiliated Hospital (FAHZU) visited Semmelweis University on 4th November 2019. An agreement on student exchange was signed by the two institutions and the areas of future joint research, focusing especially on cardiology were discussed.

During the visit, Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector and Guoyu Gu, Vice-President of FAHZU signed the agreement on student exchange that will provide not only undergraduate students, but also PhD and postdoctoral students, residents, practicing physicians and researchers of Semmelweis University with a monthly food allowance of 1,000 renminbi, housing, and a return airplane ticket for the duration of their stay in China as part of the exchange programme.

Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector suggested that in the future, joint research could be started between the two universities, especially in the field of cardiology.

The long standing relationship between Semmelweis University and FAHZU was formalized on 18th May 2017, when a letter of intent was signed on giving the opportunity to Chinese professionals mainly in the field of cardiology and neurosurgery to participate in trainings of Semmelweis University. During a visit in June 2019, the Chinese side expressed their satisfaction with the success of the cooperation and offered the opportunity for three students of Semmelweis University to participate in a practice oriented programme in China free of charge, supported by the Zhejiang Province and led by leading researchers. A two-way mobility for the students of Semmelweis University was also discussed.

On behalf of Semmelweis University, the delegation was received by Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector, Dr. Attila Szabó, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs, Dr. Miklós Kellermayer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Marcel Pop, Director of International Relations, Dr. Judit Vadlövő, Project Coordinator, Tamás Hegedüs , President of the Students’ Union, Dr. Chun Cao, cardiology trainee specialist of the György Gottsegen National Institute of Cardiology, Tünde Czétényi, international rapporteur of the Rector’s Cabinet and Márton Horváth, student of medicine.
