The President and senior professors of Saitama Medical University (Japan) visited Semmelweis University on 4 June 2007 to discuss further aspects of cooperation. Our university started a student exchange program with Saitama Medical University, the well known private Japanese university five years ago. Since then, two students from each university spend a one month summer practice at the other university every year.

In the course of the visit the President of Saitama Medical University, Dr. Toshio Yamauchi and the Rector of Semmelweis University, Dr. Tivadar Tulassay signed an agreement for further 5 years and a letter of intent aimed at the widening of the cooperation between the two institutions.

Dr. Tivadar Tulassay presented awards to the members of the Japanese delegation as an acknowledgement of their work in deepening the cooperation between the two universities. Dr. Yamauchi presented a similar award surgery professor Dr. József Sándor who was the initiator of the cooperation. The Ambassador of Japan in Hungary, Sinichi Nabekura was also present at the ceremony.
